Ladies 5s suffered a 4-0 loss away at Leatherhead. Big thanks to Freddie Stacy for coming along early to umpire and to Amanda Harris for stepping into Goal. Mom unanimously goes to Fran Robinson for putting in a relentless fight and great running in midfield. Dod goes to Ellie Coward for thinking Manda’s child was called Rocky Road.

We love boozing

The L7 are currently leading for the ladies and the M4 leading for the men’s. It is a very tight contest for the men though, so depending on how the next couple of weekends go, it could swing one of many ways! So get down to the Clubhouse and help your team to the main victory that matters this season!

Heads up that the last Saturday that the Clubhouse is open this season is 25th March… only 2 more Saturdays to go! Any teams playing after this date will have to organise home teas in a local pub. Please talk to Becky Reid if you have any questions about this.

Wedding Bells!

Congratulations (in advance) to Wanderers Social Secretary and M6 player Oli Dobbs who is marrying L3s GK Lou Matson this Saturday in Belfast.

Commentary
There was gold at the end of the rainbow for ladies 1s after a 2 hour trip to Worthing with a 5-2 win!! Mom: Jessica Cramp for great work rate, runs and GOALS… DOD Mads Smags for thinking she is so cool she can warm up in her sunglasses…
L3 lost 3-2 against Eds 2s after they scored a goal in the final five seconds. Gutted. Woman of the Match: Katie Siese. Dick of the Day: Jenny Cox
Ladies 5s played a stormer and beat top of the league 1-0. Fab goal from Ellie Coward. Mom to Becky Davidson for superb defending all over the show. Dod for Chloe Alecock for being sassy! Big hand to the whole team especially for some great play down the right wing and for working until the very awaited final whistle. Wahoo!
Some Champagne hockey played by Ladies 6s with a well-deserved 4-1 victory over Woking. Goals x 2 from Roxanna Kharrazi, 1 from Cat D and 1 from Nicci Douglass. MOM – Katt Gordon DOD – Cassandre Rank.
L7s drew (again) against Surbiton 8s 1-1. Goal from Ellie Jesty, MoM and DoD Sophie Robertson. Thanks to Isla MacGillivray and Emma F-H for umpiring!

Mens (unfortunately I only have those results that are on FixturesLive and Facebook this week)

M4 v Sunbury and Walton Hawks 2:2
M6 v Woking 4s 2:1

Commentary
Men’s 4s drew 2-2 away to sunbury and Walton hawks to remain unbeaten in 2017. Goals from Jamie Milk and Jonny Ross, first since 2015.. floodgates have opened. MOM: Jamie and Jonny, DOD: Mike and Jonny.
Late late drama at Woking! A goal with seconds remaining from Tim Greenwood gave the M6 a deserved victory over a robust Woking side. After going down to a short corner Wanderers equalised minutes later through debutant John Thuysbaert before Tim Greenwood’s tap in at the death gave Wanderers all three points.
Man- Henry Pinto. Amazing how he can play when not half cut from the night before.
Dick – Ross Reid. Sent to the naughty step for his lumberjack approach to tackling, ignoring his own pregame advice. The irony.

Dossers

The Dossers had everything thrown at them on Sunday at Round 2 of the England Hockey Knockout Plate v Tulse Hill & Dulwich (“THD”). Perhaps being a sign, the heavens opened just before the starting whistle, pelting freezing hail. Not to be distracted, the Dossers got off to a cracking start with Freddie Stacy making a fantastic (one-handed) run up the left wing, driving the baseline before passing to a running Tim Greenwood. Tim beat the (ex-National League) centre-back and scored the first goal of the match, 1-0 Wanderers.
THD had clearly stacked their team with their L1/M1s, unlike Dossers who ensured a fair representation across all interested teams in the club. THD eventually scored an equaliser in the first half and we went into half time at 2-2. It’s fair to say that a different THD came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, as all teams braved the changing elements. Craig made some incredible saves, including one from a penalty flick. However, their star drag flicker (once a star of the National League) proved to be too much of a lethal weapon, with THD sneaking the win.

Well done to all players who can hold their heads high, and special thanks to Scrappy for umpiring and to all our fantastic supporters who braved the hail to cheer us on!

All things social…

Wanderers on TOUR *in London!

The Richmond Summer Social is a 1-day multi-sport festival in Richmond park. Hockey is played on grass and this year there are women’s and mixed tournaments. This is followed by a festival style party with DJs in the rugby grounds.
The L7s went last year and had an awesome time. It would be fantastic to have as many Wanderers teams entered as possible. Entry is super cheap and each team can be up-to 10 players. Emphasis is on fun and i’m not sure any team was sober last year.
L6s and L7s are already entered and Oli Dobbs is co-ordinating (hopefully) another 2 mixed teams.

Clubhouse open this Saturday

We’ve got some beer pong cups and balls behind the bar and along with board games so just ask Georgie and Ken if you want to use them. Not to mention (probably) the cheapest bar in Clapham!

6 Nations will be shown:
Italy v France 1.30
England v Scotland 4pm
